Since the end of WWII, the conservative movement has been dominated by foreign policy hawks, initially anti-communist and later neoconservative (“neocon”). But there was a completely different conservative movement that
existed during the first half of the 20th century retrospectively known as “The Old Right.”
The movement included conservatives and disaffected liberals and classical liberals who opposed the New Deal, militarism and imperialism, and the expansion of government power over the social and economic liberties of the people in general. They fiercely opposed U.S. entry into WWII.
